The dapped-end bearing of the precast beam was designed to transfer the high shear forces from the beam to the supporting corbel. BS EN 1992 was adopted as the design code with guidelines from PCI 7th Edition.

A finite element analysis was adopted to verify the design. Software package Idea Statica concrete module was used to complement to the PCI custom spreadsheets. The FEA solution yielded comparable results to the code formula based approach, while being more accurate.
